At the north end of Flathead Lake just 15 minutes south of Kalispell, the charming and peaceful little community of Somers features a swimming beach, boat launch and yacht club with easy access to Flathead Lake. During the summer, Somers is scattered with roadside fruit stands selling locally grown fruit, like Western Montana’s famous Flathead cherries, plus apples and plums. Here’s what not to miss in Somers.

Somers offers a multitude of recreational opportunities, including sailing, paddleboarding, waterskiing, fishing, picnicking and swimming.

Somers Beach State Park

Brand new and officially open to the public for day use, Somers Beach State Park on the north shore of Flathead Lake offers nearly half a mile of sandy beach, perfect for enjoying the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi. Remember, pack it in, pack it out!

Great Northern Historical Trail

The paved Great Northern Historical Trail runs 22 miles from Somers to Kila, and it’s perfect for biking, walking, horseback riding and cross-country skiing. This wheelchair-accessible trail follows part of the route of the old Great Northern Railway and offers unrivaled views of the Swan, Mission, Salish and Whitefish mountains. If you take the trail north on a clear day you’ll see the peaks of Glacier National Park in the distance.

Del’s Bar

Rub elbows with the locals at Del’s Bar, voted Best of Flathead 2019. This great-American bar and grille boasts a pub-like atmosphere and mouthwatering food, like pizza, burgers, nine kinds of wings, cheese bread and Del’s Killer Nachos. We highly recommend their famous pork chop sandwich.

Del’s is located near the Great Northern Historical Trail.
