This past year brought new businesses to Western Montana, and the new year is the perfect time to share the news.
For all your outdoor gear needs, now visit Missoula SCHEELS, which is an adventure in and of itself. Clyde Coffee moved and expanded, and now has indoor and outdoor space, a full kitchen, plus on-site coffee roasting. Try innovative and odd brews at Oddpitch Brewing, and see what’s on tap at the independent craft brewery Cymatic Fermentation Project. In the Old Sawmill District, Boxcar Bistro boasts a menu so delicious you’d be wise to make reservations. Clark Fork Yacht Club is Missoula’s new way to float the Clark Fork—leave the shuttling and tubes to them and just enjoy the float. The new A. Banks Gallery represents about three dozen regionally and nationally acclaimed artists and has something for everyone. Coming in 2022: The Wren Hotel and Brasserie Porte Rouge, a new restaurant where The Pearl—a Missoula fave—once lived.
There’s a new place to rent skis in Whitefish at Black Tie Ski Rentals, and there’s a new place to stay and ski: Snow Bear Chalets just opened seven two + three-bedroom slopeside vacation rental chalets. Coming in 2022 Clydesdale Outpost, a tiny cabin and boutique guest ranch experience; BaseGlamp, the ultimate Montana glamping experience; and Lewis and Clark Brewery, which will open in the old Great Northern Brewing space.
New eats are in abundance in Kalispell. Try the noodle bowls at Hokkaido Ramen House.
For New York and Sicilian Style Pizzas as well as Detroit Deep Dish, Ranger Joe’s Pizza is your place. Mercantile Steak brings a classic steakhouse experience to downtown Kalispell and the KM Bar offers delicious pub food and signature cocktails. If you’ve never slept in a grain bin—now’s your chance at Clark Farm Silos. Silos are in style, and coming in 2022, a restaurant and bar is on tap for atop another former grain elevator.
Legacy Bike Park is now open in Lakeside, Live Oak Belgians offers wagon rides and horse-drawn carriages for weddings in St. Ignatius, and Camp Kapapa is your spot for eco-friendly camping and overnighting in a teepee along Flathead Lake in Elmo.
Thompson Falls has a new nanobrewery called Limberlost Brewing Company, specializing in Northwest style ales. Also in Thompson Falls, Asia Food Express has reopened on Main Street after it was closed due to fire about a year ago.
Glacier National Park Surrounding Area
Just outside the park not far from the charming town of Columbia Falls, new world wines meet old world values at White Raven Winery. All wines are made on site, four of them using Montana grapes.
Check out Seeley Adventures for all your Polaris, UTV, snowmobile and e-bike rental needs in Seeley Lake. In Condon, the beloved Swan Valley Cafe has reopened after five years of closure, and the panoramic views of the Mission Mountains are as spectacular as ever. Bigfork now has a new, swanky basement bar—1908 Speakeasy—complete with a secret passage through an alleyway backdoor.
A new Caribbean-inspired restaurant on Victor’s Main Street, Mis Abuelos fuses Cuban, Puerto Rican and Chinese influences and features classic recipes from the owner’s family.
Visit Dorio’s in Libby for authentic Italian food. With rave reviews, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu but Chef Johnny Coiro Jr. touts his lasagna and chicken parm. Trip tip: Call ahead…this place is hopping.
