BIKE THE ROUTE OF THE HIAWATHA
Twenty-three miles west of St. Regis, the Route of the Hiawatha follows a historic railroad grade through the Bitterroot Mountains. The family-friendly, 15-mile rails-to-trails ride takes cyclists through 10 tunnels—including the 1.66-mile-long tunnel—and across seven towering trestles with views of the surrounding landscape. Interpretive signs along the way share the history of the Milwaukee Railroad, while a shuttle makes it easy to return to the starting point.
VISIT THE 50,000 SILVER DOLLAR BAR
A Western Montana roadside icon, the 50,000 Silver Dollar Bar in Haugan is exactly what its name suggests. Thousands of silver dollars cover the walls, creating one of the most unique stops along Interstate 90. Browse the gift shop for souvenirs, jewelry, collectibles and, of course, silver dollars. This one stop hub has a restaurant and adjoining motel.
PLAY A ROUND OF GOLF
In St. Regis, Trestle Creek Golf Course offers a relaxed round of golf surrounded by views of the Bitterroot Range. This family-friendly course welcomes golfers of all skill levels, with club rentals available for travelers making a spontaneous stop in. For something a little different, head to Two Rivers Thrift & Minigolf and combine a round of mini golf with treasure hunting through a variety of secondhand finds.
OVERNIGHT IN A YURT
Stay in a 30-foot yurt on the banks of the Clark Fork River near Superior. Set on five acres, the property offers plenty of opportunity to spot wildlife.
