Do you ever have those moments when you realize that you are totally head over heels in love with something? I have. And the fact of the matter is that right now, at this moment, I don’t think I could be more in love with Montana. While I realize that I’m totally partial to Big Sky Country, I also feel justified in being so smitten with her.

Now you may be thinking something along the lines of, “Tia, how could you be that in love with Montana? What is it about the Treasure State that has you so smitten?

Well, I’ve actually thought quite a bit about that very question. You know, just in case someone were to ask me. Here are some of the reasons why Montana has my heart…

Her big, blue sky.

The love that Montanans have for our state.
This quote from Brad Tyer sums it up best, “Montana is one of those American states that exert a magnetism and inspire a loyalty far out of proportion to any sober appraisal.”

The outdoors.
Seriously, they are incredible. For example, from my house in Montana’s second largest city, I can be in the wilderness in 10 minutes. And that, my friends, is awesome.

One of my favorite places: Holland Lake.

Montana’s small towns.
From Ekalaka in the southeast corner to Troy in the northwest corner, I love all of them.

Oh hey, adorable Whitefish.

The eclectic characters that live in Montana’s small towns.
Side note: I can totally say that because I’m from a small town. 😉

Glacier National Park.
No matter how much time I spend there, this place touches my soul to the core.

Yum...

And if you still don’t get my love for Montana? Well, if you won’t take my word for it, maybe you’ll listen to this guy…photo

Your turn: What do you love about Montana?

Can't wait to visit Montana and someday call it home.

Absolutely AGREE!!!! Most wonderful feeling to have is...your foot on the soil of Montana and your eyes gazing over its beauty!!

I too love Montana. The more I visit the more I want to be there all the time.

I was born and raised on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. I am an island girl to my soul. Yet there is Montana; Montana with the big sky, the wide open spaces, Glacier, Yellowstone, the mountains and rivers. Montana, where you can knit an entire sweater while driving across the state. Montana, full of friendly people, abundant wildlife, incredible vistas, lack of traffic, small towns. I'm homesick for Hawai'i, and I also love every minute I spend in Montana.

I couldn't have said it better. My love affair with Montana started with my first visit to my grandparents house at age 3 months. Still going strong and I get to spend every summer there now. I am blessed!

I love it because it is the most consistently verdant of the Rocky Mountain states.

She haunts my dreams with her beauty, danger, and utter indifference. Montana, that is.

I'm a Michigander, born and bred. I love our lakes and woods. Always said I would never leave Michigan willingly to live in another state...until I visited Montana last year. I feel in love with the state. Your people, the spectacular scenery are just a few reasons. I can't wait to get back there.

I've heard great things about Michigan as well, Jo. But I'm glad that you fell in love with our Montana!

Kathy, I'm so glad you get to come back and see Montana often!

Thanks for sharing that Mokihana...we may be one of the few states where you can knit an entire sweater while traveling from one end to the other. Mahalo to you.

I was born and raised in Montana and I am a Montana guy to my soul but I live on an island in the Pacific. I own a home in both states but I spend most of my time in Montana, mentally. I live in a perpetual state of homesickness. If only my job existed in Montana, I would move the family in a heartbeat. Until then, we are going to have to live with traveling home twice a year to get our Montana fix.

I too have fallen for her, that piece of heaven called Montana. Visited a few times and at the time of the last visit I was facing surgery and left California against Dr's orders, told them I had to go back on an already planned trip back to the Treasure State and would deal with reality upon my return. On our journey back to reality I cried going back over Chief Josephs pass soooooo my hubby and I made a pinky swear that we would come back, permanently. 18 Months later we are now living here, 9 months now, right below the beautiful Jewel Basin, 23 miles from the spectacular Park and happier than ever!!! As you can tell by my E-Mail address, that 406 was put in there 18 months before our move here. I truly believe that what you put out there comes back to you, and Montana, we came back to you, forever, this is a lifetime love affair!!!
